Amish Buttermilk Biscuits recipe
|
To make Amish Buttermilk Biscuits you will need
Ingredients
| 3 | cups | Flour | | 1/4 | cups | Instant lowfat dry milk (I | | | Used nonfat) | | 1 | tablespoon | Baking powder | | 2 | tablespoons | Sugar (I used less) | | 1 | teaspoon | Salt | | 2 | teaspoons | Cream of tartar | | 1/2 | cups | Cold butter in pieces | | 1/2 | cups | Cold lard | | 14 | tablespoons | Cold buttermilk |
Instructions
Pulse the dry ingredients with the butter and lard until grainy, NOT
blended! Add the cold buttermilk, and mix until the dough comes
together.
Place dough on a floured cloth or marble slab, and knead a few times
with floured hands. (Keep the dough cold!) Pat or roll out to
3/4-inch thick, and cut out biscuit rounds or shapes. (You can use a
cookie cutter!)
These biscuits can be frozen ahead, or baked immediately.
Baking time: Bake at 400 degrees F for 13-15 minutes if fresh, and
15-18 minutes if frozen.
